The lakes are deservedly renowned for their vast choice of lovely walks, with grades ranging from 'pushchair'  to 'ropes & crampons.'  We can't attempt to describe them all, of course, but here are a few of our favourites - most starting and finishing at the cottage - to get you going.

Times are estimated at gentle walking pace (about 1.5 mph), including refreshment stops etc.

Walk 1:   To The 'Britannia'
Distance: 2 miles each way.
Time: 40 mins. each way.

This gentle walk follows the famous 'Cumbria Way' along  the river Brathay, finishing at a convenient watering place - the  'Britannia Inn' in Elterwater.
Walk 2:   Black Crag
Distance: 6.2 miles
Time : 5 hours



Walk 3: Up Loughrigg Fell
Distance: 4.5 miles
Time: 3 hours
   

Walk 4: Around Loughrigg Tarn
Distance: 1.84 miles.
Time:
45 mins.
Walk 5: A Walk Up Lingmoor Fell from Chapel Stile
Distance: 4.76 miles
Time: 4 hours
